Should I return it? Good question. There are many different scenarios for this question. Here are a couple that I've been sent:
I went to CVS and bought the wrong thing and it didn't generate ECBs can I return it?
Personally I would only return it if I did it right then and there and then bought the correct item.
IE. I went to CVS last week and bought the Tide Free and Clear for $5.99, get $2.00 in ECBS. My ECBs did not print. I immediately asked for the manager and they looked over it. Sine they couldn't figure out why I didn't get them they refunded the full amount onto a money card and then I bought a different type of Tide right then. Those issued an ECB - all is good.
I bought a monitor because I had a coupon for it and it generated $10.00 in ECBS, but I don't really need it. Can I return it?
IMO - No. Because you MADE money on it. Donate it - give it away. Returning it and getting a money card for it would be double dipping. It's unethical. Unless of course you'd like to return it and then tear up the ECB that generated for it, but most people aren't honest enough to do this.
Managers know what creates ECBS and if you return it it puts you on their radar. I've talked with managers before who look for certain people who are habitual returners. They buy items that generate ECBS and then they return the item to get a money card. Then they turn around and use the money card to buy cigarettes and alcohol. Personally, I like to fly under the radar - I don't want to turn up on anyone's watch list - lol!
I bought and item and it broke but I paid with my ECBs - can I return it?
Absolutely!! I bought a mop using some of my ECBs and it broke as soon as I took it out of the plastic wrap. Cheesy and it cost me 15.00 in ECBS!! I was NOT happy. I took it in and explained what happened and they put my refund on a money card. This is the only type of return I would endorse, because it's honest. You paid for something and it broke. Get a new one. :)
I bought a CVS brand item and hate it. Can I return it?
Yes. Even if you paid with ECBs you can return it under CVS's policy. All CVS brand products and all cosmetics are 100% satisfaction guaranteed or your money back. If you are dissatisfied for any reason, you can return the CVS brand or cosmetic product (opened or unopened) along with your receipt or invoice. If you used ECBS to pay for it it will be returned on a money card. (however, note the conflict if you received ECBs on it. That would be a personal decision. Personally - I'd throw it out and not stress about it. I got it for free anyway.)
Be sure to send me any other questions you have concerning CVS and I'll do my best to answer them for you. Send your questions to carliefaulk@cox.net.

Excellent thoughts - I couldn't agree more :) Thanks for posting!
Thanks again for addressing CVS ethics. I'll keep up the link-love because I think this is SO beneficial. I have had more people emailing me questions too, so that's great!!!
Great post! Returning something that gave you ECB's (like those monitors) is bad coupon karma and will definitely get ya back!!!
Would you return diapers? I have been stocking up but in the size my daughter is in now. it just hit me to start stocking up in bigger sizes. (der) Would you return these, in the future I mean (once I know she's already outgrown the size)? I didn't know if their policy was as flexible as say, Wal-Mart--lol
If the diapers are unopened I would exchange them for a larger size, but not return them. I have a great realationship with most of my CVS managers and they know I'm not out to scam them. :)
